I am so swamped this holiday season, I’ve had no time to blog at all! The plus side to that is I have tons of gorgeous families to share! There seems to be a baby boom going on in Santa Clarita too, I’ve had 8 newborns in the last month with that many more due over the holidays. I’ve heard the maternity ward is jumping right now, Laurie Sachs Photography certainly is!

 

This family I’ve shot with 5 times I think? Our first shoot was when little Stella was a newborn, she’s now in kindergarten! Mom wanted to do something different this time, she envisioned a dressy photo shoot down at the LACMA. We had an absolute blast at their session! I’ve had the pleasure of getting outside to shoot several sessions recently, I love getting outside! While it is bone dry out there it’s actually been a pretty mild summer here in the Los Angeles basin and we haven’t had nearly as many days of extreme heat as we’d expect by August. The challenge has been searching out some green, go away drought, over you!

 

This gorgeous family has had 3 shoots with me over the years, love watching my little ones grow! My favorite types of family images are ones that show some personality, that capture the dynamics of a family’s love for one another. I think we achieved that here. As a mama of teens myself I know how hard it can be to coordinate everyone’s schedule and get teens to cooperate, but those years before they leave the nest are really the ideal time for a family photoshoot. Most of us moms have plenty of pictures of our families when the kids are babies, but what about as they get older? I can’t tell you how many moms have told me “we haven’t had pictures taken in years!” 5 years? 10 years??? So here’s a call to action mamas, book a shoot for your family before they start heading off to college, you won’t regret it. Enjoy~

 

 

How about an outdoor session for today? This is my second time working with this awesome family, I photographed them just before Christmas. Their girls are so cute I can hardly stand it! I have so many shoots from Christmas I have yet to share (not to mention around 50 other shoots from last year), I figured I’d start with blogging my own family! Hands down, my kids are always my most challenging shoot of the year! This year I really wanted a great family picture as we are in a stage of transition with my oldest set to graduate from high school in May, sniffle, sniffle… where has the time gone??? I don’t feel old enough to be the mother of an adult, and yet that day is quickly approaching. So here we are- the Sachs family 2014, the kids are 17, 15, 10, and 7. These were shot in basically a ditch on the side of the road by my house in about 15 minutes, because that’s how it rolls when it’s your own family!
