The Focused Photographers Blog recently asked me for an interview and a peek inside my home studio. Fun stuff! Check it out here: http://www.focusedphotographers.com/creating-a-home-studio-with-laurie-sachs/

2012 has been such a fantastic year! I had 94 portrait sessions this year and had the pleasure of photographing 37 brand new people. Many of my former newborns came back to see me for milestones and family sessions. It is such a joy to be able to capture the very first portraits of so many children, I am truly honored by the trust families place in me. My own little family continued to prosper and grow, I am truly, truly blessed.

I have the most exciting news to share!!! The Professional Photographers of America and the Professional Photographers of California released competition results this week. I am super proud and humbled to share that I’ve been named the 2012 CALIFORNIA FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!! I am also the recipient of the Fuji Masterpiece Award for the state of California. The combined scores of the four images I submitted ranked in the top 20 for the Western District of the PPA and in the top 10 for the state of California. My image of little Freja with big sister Isabel was the big winner. Cassidy and Jake in the heart also received a merit and will be moving on to international competition. The Glover family smooching and sweet little Cassie rounded out my entries for this year. My images will hang at Pro Photo Expo in Pasadena in August and I’ll have some snazzy new plaques and trophies for my office :)

I have so much blogging to catch up on this week, expect lots of posts from me! I’ve just returned from Wedding and Portrait Photographers International convention and trade show in Las Vegas. My website company Showit asked me to come and speak on a panel about finding your niche in the portrait industry and creating a successful portrait business through specialization. What an honor. I was lucky enough to speak with outstanding boudoir photographer Jennifer Rosenbaum of Jenerations Boudoir in New York and amazing high school seniors photographer Holli True from Oregon. We had a great time and hopefully shared lots of useful information with those in our class. I went to plenty of classes as well and nearly ran myself ragged with vendor parties, get togethers, classes, seminars, trade shows, oh my. I brought back so much fantastic information I can wait to implement in my business and I got to see some amazing new products I can’t wait to use as well. Another thing I brought back is the early Beta release of Showit’s HTML5 mirroring, holy amazingness! If you are not an internet geek what that means is my full website is now available in all it’s gorgeousness right on your tablet, smartphone or ipad. It kind of rocks, check it out. Best of all I got to hang out with dozens of amazing photographers and friends. I’m a lucky girl. Here’s a few highlights from my trip:

I don’t think I can have a blog post without babies, can I??? Some of my sweethearts are growing up and came to see me in the last few weeks for milestone shoots. Stella and Jacob are both two years old now and sweet Cassel is 21 months. Time is flying!!!

Recently I had the privilege of photographing a very special little girl named Kylee through the charity organization Inspiration Through Art. Kylee suffers from mitochondrial disorder which causes a complex multitude of health ailments. Kylee has a feeding and a drainage tube and wears a little backpack that holds her nourishment. She has a hard time tolerating heat and cold so we did her session here in my studio. Kylee’s siblings all suffer from mitochondrial disorder in varying degrees but Kylee is the most severely affected. Kylee was back in the hospital just after our session. While I hear she is doing well I hope you’ll join me in prayer and well wishes for her continued recovery.
