Today I photographed the most alert week old baby I have ever encountered! Matthew wasn’t fussy, he just wasn’t sleeping :) He had this wide gaze and looked me straight in the eye, made me wonder what he was thinking about. He was also unusually strong for a baby so small, he lifted his head and rolled himself over during our session! All mom wanted were some curled up sleepy shots and I promised her if we followed his lead and were patient we would get the shots we needed. In the end, with much coaxing and all of my tricks the little prince… slept. Enjoy the sneak peek guys, much more to come.

Today I had the most amazing session! This lovely family had a little boy and then were blessed with another baby boy. Life was good, they were content, they thought their family was complete. Someone apparently had other plans because four weeks after the birth of their baby they were pregnant again… with twins! These baby girls just couldn’t wait to get here and arrived two months early giving them three children eight months apart! I could hardly believe their story when I heard it! Today at our photoshoot mom said that if God saw fit to bless them this much they just had to have faith that He would help them through it. What a great attitude to have and I couldn’t agree more. Enjoy the sneak peek, lots more to come…

The fig leaf is for daddy, I heard he wouldn’t want any girlie parts online but as a mom I would proudly hang this on my wall and it’s one of my favorites.

This one shows just how small they are, they fit right in Momm’y diaper bag! I think these girls were born to shop…

So as I was editing this session today I said to my husband “you have got to come over here and see THE most beautiful baby!” He said “really? another one!” Yes! They really are all THE most beautiful baby I have ever seen, as each of my kids were, as each of my nieces and nephews were. I’ll admit it, I firmly wear my mommy goggles, I have never seen a baby I didn’t think was spectacular in every way and getting to photograph them and save that newness forever is insanely cool. The furry backs, the pot bellies, the wrinkly skin, and the baby smell… oh my! So today I got to photograph two week old Brady and his lovely mom and dad. After coming over to see his pictures my husband did agree that “wow, he is cute!” I think for some reason I just have an inordinate number of beautiful customers :) Enjoy the sneak peek guys, lots more to come…

There is something so special about a girl’s childhood best friend. Not that boys don’t make close friends but with girls it’s different, maybe it’s because they are free to articulate it– you are my sister, my best friend forever, and in the most pure and sincere way they absolutely mean it. Hours spent over years whispering in the dark at sleepovers or floating in the pool in the afternoon sun, doing each other’s hair, curling up for a movie– breed a closeness it’s hard to find later in life. This is my daughter and her best friend. Summer is coming to an end, changes are on the horizon, so for today I wanted to capture them just as they are, in all their giggly glory. Sometimes you need to step back from the big picture and see that life is just about the little things.

I could tell you that I have no trouble at all photographing my own children, but that would be such a lie! hahaha… In truth it IS NOT EASY. They cry, try to run away, pout, make silly faces… and that’s just the 12 year old :) I never get a whole shoot in in one day and have to ambush them in little bits and pieces when the mood seems right. Yesterday I told them I’d like to get a new picture of them all together. The eldest son of course balked, which is apparently his genetic duty as a preteen and jr high schooler. “But you have lots of pictures of me!” I explained to him just how fast he is growing and changing, last year he was just up to my arm, this year he suddenly was up to my chin. He was so wonderful I just wanted to capture him right now so that I could remember what he was like at 12, so that I wouldn’t forget when he was grown and off to college. At that moment I could see that the hard shell was cracking exposing the soft nougat center as the corner of his mouth cracked into a smile and his eyes shined just a little. Today I would get my picture. So here are some recent favorites, including lots of out takes which, truth be told, are some of my favorites… but, shh… don’t tell them that!
